What is the Difference between Custom Made Mouthguard vs Over the Counter Mouthguard?
Custom fitting mouth guard are prescribed by dental professionals and created using a method that combines a detailed mould of your mouth and teeth with a thermoplastic material. These highly personalised devices are designed for ultimate comfort and long term wear. They are customised to specifically function for their intended purpose eg; nighttime grinding or sporting use.
Why does an Athlete need to Wear a Custom Made Mouthguard While Preforming?
Mouth-guards are a cushioning device made of a body safe flexible material used to protect the mouth and teeth from impact and prevent oral injuries. They also prevent the upper and lower jaw from fully coming together reducing the the risk of joint injuries in the jaw and concussion.
Athletes and sportsmen/ women participating in an activity where there is an increased risk of facial impact are encouraged to wear specifically custom-made mouth guard due to their superior fit and long term comfort they have the ability to preserve lips, teeth and gums from dental injuries during play.
Can you wear w Mouthguard while you are wearing Braces? What are the Steps involved?
- The dentist first brings a bowl of hot water and keeps them for 30 seconds to fit this.
- Now they place the mouthguard inside that for 12 seconds.
- After that, they remove the mouthguard from the water. Before setting them inside the mouth, they ask you to lick the lips.
- Now you have to line up the mouthguard carefully around all upper teeth.
- You can use your fingers to press the mouthguard tightly in the upper and lower section.
