Steps Involved for Relining and Repairing Dentures
Dentures need regular assessment and maintenance to ensure they are well functioning and performing as they should. As well as the occasional repair, every few years after daily wear your dentures may need to be relined to perfect their fit within your mouth and prevent further unnecessary wearing and discomfort.
That process looks like this:
- A dental impression is taken to gather accurate information about the current shape and contours of your gums and jaw.
- A small amount of existing material will be filed away (removed) from your dentures to make room for the new, better fitting liner made from the same material to match.
- Your dentist will fit the newly lined dentures and make final adjustments if needed.
They key to preserving the longevity from your dentures is to care for them gently and regularly. This level of care can greatly reduce to rate in which you need to repair, reline and even replace them.
